EMPowered Notes

This is not a library of answers.

It is a place to pause, think more clearly, and notice what may be happening beneath the surface.

Some notes are questions. Some are short reflections. Some are tools you can use in a conversation, a relationship, or a season of change.

Start wherever something catches your attention.

Emotional Language

What do you do with a feeling before you ever name it?

Some of us explain.

Some minimize.

Some get quiet.

Some become frustrated.

Some take care of everyone else first.

Learning your emotional language is not about becoming more emotional. It is about becoming more aware of what happens inside you, how you communicate it, and what you may actually need.

What emotion is easiest for you to express, and which one do you tend to hide behind something else?

Relationships

Are you communicating, or are you hoping they will figure it out?

We often think we have clearly communicated something because we have thought about it a hundred times.

That does not mean the other person has heard it once.

Healthy communication sometimes begins with saying the thing plainly, without overexplaining it, defending it, or making the other person responsible for reading between the lines.

Before an important conversation, finish this sentence: What I really want you to understand is…

Taking Care of Your Mind

You do not have to be in crisis to pay attention.

Mental and emotional well-being is not something we should only notice when life becomes unmanageable or heavy.

Sometimes taking care of your mind looks much quieter.

  • Noticing what has been occupying your thoughts.
  • Paying attention to what keeps draining you.
  • Recognizing when something has been bothering you longer than you want to admit.
  • Having a conversation before everything reaches a breaking point.

What has been taking up more space in your mind than you want it to?

Life Transitions

Sometimes the hardest part of change is not knowing who you are inside of the change.

  • A new job.
  • A relationship changing.
  • Children growing up.
  • Grief.
  • A body that feels different.
  • A life that looks different than it did five years ago.
  • Spiritual transitions.

Transitions have a strange way of asking questions we were not planning to answer.

Instead of immediately asking, What should I do next?

Who am I becoming in this season, and what still feels like me, and what parts do I want to keep, and what parts do I want to let go of?

Questions Worth Asking

Not every question needs an immediate answer. Some simply deserve more attention.

  • What have you been tolerating because changing it feels harder?
  • Where are you asking for clarity when what you really need is courage?
  • What do you keep explaining that may need a boundary instead?
  • What part of your life feels most unlike you right now?
  • When you say, “I’m fine,” what are you usually trying to move past quickly?
  • What conversation would make something feel lighter if you finally had it?

A Note to Keep

Sometimes finding the words is the work.

We cannot always change what is happening around us.

But we can become more aware of what is happening within us, find language for it, and decide how we want to respond.

That is often where clarity begins.

EMPowered Sticky Notes for Your Mirror

You are allowed to need and want what you need and want without building a courtroom case for it.

Clarity does not always arrive before the conversation. Sometimes it is created by having it.

You can be grateful for what was and still choose what is healthier for you now.
